I tunes U

I think iTunesU is a another great invention "OUR" generation has come up with. Every University can create their own iTunesU which means every student has access to what's being offered on iTunes. Everything from lectures, lab demonstrations, notes,to study guides can be found on this site. For the college student this can be a very good thing, most of the time I can't make it to class ItunesU would be a very helpful way of getting the information I missed that particular day. The only backdrop of students relying on this new tool is complying with the schools attendance policy.

I would use iTunesU if I were a college professor or high school teacher. the reason being is I feel that younger children need eye to eye contact and there are a lot of parents in the world who would strongly rely on iTunes or some of the children won't access or the means to purchase an ipod or computer. So until everyone can have access to the materials required to use this site I don't think i would incorporate it into my class. However, I will use it for the duration of my collegian journey.

Wikipedia

I first learned about Wikipedia while at Bishop State Community college. My history teacher gave our class a search assignment, she told us to us any resource available to us. She strongly advised against Wikipedia. At the time I had no clue of what Wikipedia was and quite frankly I'm glad. Some of my class chose not to follow the advice of our teacher almost all of their information was bogus.
I don't, well actually I do anyone can do anything with the internet now. However, some of these privilages come at a high cost for college students like us. How do we know the information we are getting is true?

Dr. Papert

I was impressed with Dr. Papert instantly when I learned he worked with Jean Piaget. Math and psychology are my favorite subjects I knew this guy was going to be interesting. Dr. Papert was ahead of his time back in the sixties when he visioned technology playing a significant role in children's education in and outside the classroom. I could have been the fact that not everyone would be able to afford a computer at that time not many people owned TVs. However, Dr.Papert's visions came to be a reality, not only does technology help inside the classroom it motivates children to want to learn more and the can do it in the comfort of their own home or at local libraries. Technology also gets the parents involved almost everyone is curious about the WEB.

Dr. Papert's website mamamedia http://mamamedia.com/ is one of his visions come to true. Mamamedia is a website for children and parents. It's a safe web site for children to learn by playing games.

News paper article

I must say I am a hands on person. However, even though a person may be a strong listener she or he must be able to read and be a strong reader because there will be times when the mediator isn't always present. There are a lot of times i have sat in the classroom listening to the teacher blah blah blah and had to go home and read the whole chapter. But because i did both listen and read I had a better understanding of what it was i was trying to learn.

International schools that use blogs

Mr James Chapman the head teacher at http://www.dhahranbritish.comDhahran British Grammar School, has a staff of 28 and an enrollment of 406 students. He uses blogs to keep the parents up to date with what the school has going on and future events. He posts the students cirriculum and menu. I didn't see much about the acutal classrooms use of blogs, however just the fact that the school having a blog I a great tool for keeping the parents involved.

Teachers are converting to blogs because they Provide a place for regular writing practice as well as cutting done the paper trail. I also gives the student and teacher a one one form of communication with direct feedback. I gives the shy student a chance to shine.

Mark Ahlness, a third grade teacher, http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/arbor.html at Seattle's Arbor Heights Elementary School introduced blogs to his class as a project. He said never in 25 years of teaching had he seen a more powerful motivator for writing than blogs.

Here is a picture of Mr. Ahlness's class working on their blogs. Mr Ahlness says the first step is to learn how to type. Classroom blogging is wonderful I didn't learn to type until I was in the eighth grade I had a choice Auto shop, Home Ec., or typing I picked the easiest.

Access and ALEX are alike in many ways. I gives the teacher a wider scope of options to incorporate the web and standard learning in the classroom. People want to learn the key is to keep them interested. I would say spice and creativity is what these sites bring to the classroom. No one wants to see a person standing in front a dry erase board for 7.5 hours day ...... after so many days the teacher would began to sound like the one on Charlie Brown, I know you remember that Dr. Strange LOL

As a teacher I would take advantage of all that ALEX has to offer. I would use the personal workspace and professional learning the most. I am learning that I if want to become a teacher I am going to always need to be in the know. Alex is a tab that I would most defiantly add to my igoogle. I am just taken away by the fact that they post lesson plans, it gives a guide as well as new ideas of teaching children.

Alex make the actual process of preparing a lesson to teach less of a hassle and now since almost everything is available on the web teachers have more time to spend with their family.

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is an awesome web site for teachers and parents. It lists every subject known to be taught in schools and gives a detailed chronological order to teach by. I went to the mathematics section of the site and clicked on 4 grade and saw exactly what my son was going to be learning in math this year. We changed schools this school year and I was a little upset to see that he was doing rounding when last year at his former school he was already in fractions. I was under the impression that he was in a poor school but now I know that this criteria is state wide.

As a aspiring teacher alex is a great companion it shows examples of lesson plans while offering space to make and save ones own lesson plan. Teaching has really upgraded and is rapidly loosing its paper trail. Now all I need to do is make my Laptop personal.

The Future

I'm a little nervous and excited of what the future holds for me as a teacher. I am interested in becomming a teacher because I love the idea of learning new things and sharing them with people who want to learn. So maybe if there are going to have workshops that will help educators when this shift happens I think my students and I will be ok.
